  I have a question for you all......

  my sister visited me a few months ago, and she was on a holy roller, 'save my soul' kick.

  she told me that i needed to get back to the meetings because armageddon was so near.

  i told her that if i serve jehovah, it will not be because i am afraid of dying at armageddon, it will be because i love him and have a personal relationship with him.

  Anyway, my question is, has anyone used the "Armageddon is right around the corner, and you should come back so you don't die" reasoning on you? What was your reply, and how did you feel about it in relation to what you know about God?

  Yes, an elder’s wife kept throwing that line to me when I rang to return her husband’s “encouragement call” after I hadn’t been attending meetings for several months.

  I simply said that I wasn’t afraid of Armageddon (true) and that my faith was in Jehovah and that he would be the reader of hearts and thus judge me accordingly (true - at the time).

  hi, after my grandma past who was in this religion, i was an idiot, and i stayed in the religion as i thought it was the only way to see her again.

  my dad stressed because he was inactive but busy supporting our family.she was faithful to the religion, becase like saul she thought she was doing the right thing.. being "black" it was hard for us to support the house we bought in the suburban area.

  the dead beat jobs that i could get after high school were not acceptable to me, and i would surely lose my patience with people espeically if i hated the job and was getting paid near minimum wage.

  panty Hose at Meeting?

  a friend of mine went to work in ny for a few months.. it was the middle of summer, and baking hot.. after the meeting an elder approached her and asked why wasnt she wearing panty hose at the kingdumb hell.. she said its too hot.. he said it disrespects jehoobie.. she said "so does staring at my legs during the meeting.".

  i have also heard complaints that a bra strap might be visible under a blouse, so cardigans should still be worn.. how do these creeps cope when sitting on a beach?.

  who was the gibbering buddy who sunbathed on the roof of beth hell showing off his packet in skimpy trunks?.

  LOL, loved her retort.

  I think it must have been a local issue. I live in Australia and there wasn’t a rule about wearing hose or stockings. Considering how hot and the length of time summer lasts in Australia, it was an impractical standard.

  Maybe it was something remaining from the 1950s?

  the hall i grew up in had hideous carpet from a company in georgia, usa that was purportedly owned by jws called "world carpet" (not very spiritual sounding in retrospect).

  i saw this monstrous stuff all over the usa.

  i'm pretty sure bethel facilities even got some of this stuff back in then.. .

  Most-Ignored Scriptures by JWs

  the watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.

  they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.

  " the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

  I haven’t picked up a Bible for 10 years so I don’t have any scriptures in mind, but I remember as a JW I would sometimes read a random portion of the Bible and think, “the Society has never mentioned THIS scripture!??” Often it would be a scripture that clearly says that all followers of Christ would be heaven-bound, or something that obviously was in contradiction with WTS doctrines.

  I think it was a series of these little “ah-ha” moments which enabled me to start thinking for myself.

  my whole freaking family is still in.

  i am 5th generation and i use to have tons and tons of "friends" that are still in.

  when i was little my dad was co substitute for years so we got to travel alot and meet even more jws.

  I can sooooo relate to you. My family was an ultra-strict JW one and I’m the only one in my immediate family to leave the JWs.

  This was at my sister’s house, she was giving the prayer for her, me, and her 4 yr old daughter.

  My sister asked that Jah looked after a couple of family members (who were in advanced age) at which point my niece piped up, “and Josie??” – Josie was one of her dolls.

  My sister stifled a laugh and added to the prayer, “and Josie”.

  It was a sweet moment, as well as funny.

  I have a grandmother who was the matriarch of my mother’s side of the family, who brought her family up to be JWs, so I can relate….

  First, thank your lucky stars that your family are so blasé about you leaving the JWs. At least you don’t have to deal with family shunning etc.

  Second, was your grandmother happy as a JW? Did it give her comfort and security? Did it help her live a good life?

  If the answers are yes, then I wouldn’t consider her life “wasted” any more than if she’d been a Catholic or whatever. Maybe she had some regrets, but who doesn’t at the end of their life?

  If you believe in the Bible’s promise of life after death, then you can be assured you’ll see your grandmother again. I don’t think God cares what brand of religion a person is, it’s how they lived their life that counts.

  Since millions now living will sometime retire.....

  if you bought into the lie that "millions now living will never die," has the.

  realization that you will very likely reach retirement age, settled in your mind just yet?.

  for instance, i never looked to see if there was a 401k plan when i was in the jw cult.

  To be encouraged by governmental authorities to save for your future retirement & as an individual foolishly decide to ignore the advice is one thing.

  To be DISCOURAGED by the 'God given authority of the Governing Body Of JW's' to save for your future retirement & as an individual suffer the weight of disapproval by people who consider themselves more spiritually mature should you decide to plan for your future is another.

  Amen.
